Bangalore Silks

One of the greatest visionaries of the country, J RD Tata is the man behind the startup of pure silk sarees in Bangalore. Pioneer in building the traditional sericulture and silk industry along scientific lines, he developed the first sericulture farm of the country in 1896 with a filature and weaving unit in Basavanagudi area of Bangalore and the area even today is referred to as ‘Tata Silk Farm’. This brought about the onset of silk revolution in Bangalore. Even today though there is nothing left of the Tata silk farm, Bangalore as a city has become synonym with silk and handloom silk sarees from Bangalore are most popular all around the world. Their vibrant colors, their intricate zari work, their broad gold borders and their rich looking pallus make them one of the most popular wedding silk sarees and one of the most sought after silk sarees from India.

These sarees come in metallic colours that give a rich feel. Zari worked borders and designer pallus are some of the recent additions to the original silk weave. Available in a variety of styles, there are plain weave sarees with temple border and appliqué prints or stylish block printed zari border saris and then there are some with a touch of grandeur through zari motifs, woven patterns, and designer borders with zari work. A classic variety is the one with detailed images and inscriptions from the epics, folk lore and themes from nature. Considered light, airy and stylish, Bangalore silk sarees are a hit especially with working women because of their great looks, extraordinary comfort and low maintenance.
